About Me
Sometimes life doesn’t look the way you thought it would.
Helping you feel more connected—to yourself, to the people you love, and to the life you want to build.
Therapy for teens, young adults, adults & families in Calabasas and throughout California.
Maybe your teenager is struggling and nothing you say seems to get through. Maybe your adult child feels stuck and you’re unsure when to help and when to step back. Maybe addiction has changed the dynamics of your entire family. Or perhaps you’re the one who has spent years taking care of everyone else, keeping the peace, holding everything together—and somewhere along the way, you lost sight of yourself.
This is the kind of work I love to do.
I’m Candice Sosa, a Licensed Professional Clinical Counselor in Calabasas. I work with teens, adults, parents, and families navigating some of life’s more complicated seasons, with particular experience in grief and loss, addiction and its impact on families, codependency, resistant or struggling teens, young adults having difficulty launching into independence, family conflict, and the unique challenges of blended families.
My style of therapy is warm, down-to-earth, collaborative, and honest. I don’t believe therapy should feel overly clinical or like you’re sitting across from someone who is simply analyzing you. I want you to feel comfortable being yourself—even if you’re not quite sure what you need yet.
I take a person-centered, strength-based, and holistic approach to therapy. Rather than focusing only on what’s “wrong,” we look at the whole picture: your experiences, relationships, patterns, strengths, values, environment, and the parts of your life that may need more attention or balance. Together, we work toward understanding what is keeping you stuck and finding realistic ways to move forward.
For parents, that may mean learning how to support your child without losing yourself in the process. For teens, it may mean finally having a place where they don’t feel lectured, judged, or pressured to be someone they’re not. For young adults, it may mean building confidence, independence, identity, and direction. And for individuals and families affected by addiction, grief, codependency, or difficult relationship patterns, it can mean learning how to love the people in your life without abandoning yourself.
I believe therapy is ultimately about more than reducing symptoms. It’s about understanding yourself, recognizing the strengths you already possess, creating healthier relationships, and building a life that feels more authentic, connected, and fulfilling.
You don’t need to have everything figured out before you start. We can figure out the next step together.
I grew up in the area and have lived here most of my life. It is an honor to be providing services here and working to make our community a stronger, safer, more comfortable place to live and raise our families.
Areas I am Especially Passionate about:
Teens Who Are Struggling or Resistant to Therapy
Connecting with teens who may not have been the person who decided they “needed therapy.”
Launching & Young Adults
Helping young adults who feel stuck, overwhelmed, unmotivated, uncertain about their future, or struggling to transition into independence.
Addiction & the Family
Supporting individuals and families impacted by substance use—including the people who love someone struggling with addiction.
Codependency & Boundaries
Learning to care deeply about others without taking responsibility for their choices, emotions, or recovery.
Grief & Loss
Navigating loss while finding a way to continue living, connecting, and making meaning without minimizing what you’ve experienced.
Families & Blended Families
Helping families navigate conflict, changing roles, parenting differences, communication difficulties, and the complicated emotions that can come with bringing families together.
What is a Licensed Professional Clinical Counselor (LPCC):
Pathways to licensure for Licensed Professional Clinical
Counselors (LPCCs) and Licensed Marriage and Family
Therapists (LMFTs) are very similar.
In order to qualify for licensure for either career in California, you must have earned a Master’s degree from a program that integrates the principles of mental health recovery-oriented practice and features training in multicultural values, human growth and development, psychopharmacology and substance abuse counseling.
LPCCs have a wider scope of practice and operate more generally in the field of mental health. They are able to see a variety of clients including individuals of all ages, families, and couples. When treating clients, they approach problems from an individual developmental standpoint, examining a patient’s psychological and social development. LPCCs have the ability to examine and target specific struggles but also focusing on a client’s overall ecological systems, which, in addition to the microsystem, takes into account aspects such as cultural context, ethnicity and socioeconomic status, just to name a few.
My Approach
Therapy should feel human.
I believe the relationship you have with your therapist matters just as much as the tools you learn along the way. My approach is warm, genuine, collaborative, and individualized. I want therapy to be a place where you can show up exactly as you are—without judgment, pressure, or the feeling that you have to say the “right” thing.
I use a person-centered, strength-based, and holistic approach, which means we won’t focus only on symptoms or problems. We’ll look at the whole person—your relationships, experiences, patterns, environment, values, strengths, and what may be getting in the way of the life or relationships you want.
I’m supportive, but I’m also honest. Sometimes growth means feeling understood and validated, and sometimes it means gently challenging patterns that are no longer serving you. We’ll work together to identify what you can change, what you may need to accept, and where you can begin taking meaningful steps forward.
There is no one-size-fits-all approach to therapy. Whether I’m working with a resistant teenager, a parent who feels helpless watching their child struggle, a young adult trying to find direction, or someone navigating grief, addiction, family conflict, or codependency, I meet each person where they are.
The goal isn’t to become a different person. It’s to better understand yourself, recognize your strengths, and feel more confident navigating your life and relationships.
